Police officers in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County, are holding a 33-year-old man who was caught allegedly committing an unnatural act on one of his neighbour’s cows.
According to Kiminini Sub-County Police Commander John Onditi, the suspect, Joseph Barasa, was caught in the act in the neighbour’s cowshed on Monday, 9 June 2025, morning.
“Yes, it is true we apprehended the man who was caught by villagers sleeping with his neighbour’s cow in a cowshed. When a veterinary officer examined the cow, he confirmed that the cow had been penetrated,” Onditi stated.
In an exclusive interview with Uasin Gishu News, the police boss said the man was rescued from angry members of the public by police officers.

The locals wanted to lynch him over the bizarre incident.
“Were it not for our quick response, the man would have been killed for committing a beastly act and the fact that he could not leave the scene because it appears the cow owner had done something that kept the man there until our officers arrived,” he added.
The man is expected to be arraigned at Kitale Law Court on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, to face charges of committing unnatural offence.
Meanwhile, the sub-county police boss urged men with similar motives to desist and look for single women.
What happens to cow involved in unnatural act?
According to the Bukusu culture, a cow that has been defiled is supposed to be killed and buried or burnt completely.
Speaking to Uasin Gishu News, Ferdinand Wanyisia, a Bukusu elder said that a man who commits such an act is required to compensate the owner of the cow and should be cleansed using a sheep that is slaughtered at the scene of the act.
A black sheep cannot be used in the cleansing ceremony.
“If the man does not have a cow or a sheep, his relatives are required to help him. Once the cleansing has been done, the remaining meat is eaten by all the people attending the ceremony,” Wanyisia said.
