A section of influential women leaders in Trans Nzoia County have unanimously endorsed former Health Cabinet Secretary, Susan Nakhumicha, to be the third Governor of the cosmopolitan County.
This is a declaration made on Saturday, May 30, 2026, after Nakhumicha hosted over 4,000 women drawn from all five Sub-Counties at her Chebarus residence.
According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Trans Nzoia Women Leaders Community-Based Organisation (CBO), Immaculate Shamala, the meeting marked the beginning of a united and progressive County.

“The women of Trans Nzoia have spoken. We believe that leadership must move beyond empty rhetoric, divisive politics, and personalized attacks rooted in sexism and political intimidation,” Shamala said, adding that “the people of Trans Nzoia deserve issue-based politics anchored on development, dignity, inclusion, and service delivery.”
Why Trans Nzoia women are backing Susan Nakhumicha’s governorship bid
The CEO stated that Trans Nzoia women yearn for leadership that listens to them, hears the cries of mothers, youth, farmers, traders, professionals, persons living with disabilities, and every ordinary citizen seeking a better county.
She added that should Nakhumicha be elected the first female Governor of Trans Nzoia, she will prioritise quality and accessible healthcare, women and youth economic empowerment, food security and agricultural transformation, and peaceful coexistence among communities.
She will also protect women against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), ensure transparent and accountable governance while collaborating with the National Government to accelerate development.
“And because women understand the daily realities of families, communities, markets, schools, hospitals, and the struggles faced by ordinary wananchi, we believe the time has come for a woman to steer the leadership of Trans Nzoia County,” Shamala stated.
In her speech, Nakhumicha said her leadership will be based on consultations, accessibility and solutions-driven governance.

Susan Nakhumicha’s promise to Trans Nzoia locals
“Today, we, the women of Trans Nzoia, demand access to power and authority. And today, as I am speaking, I’m not just speaking, I am speaking as a woman who understands responsibility, I am speaking as a woman who has been given responsibility to manage and deliver under extreme pressure,” Nakhumicha said.
She further said she understands the magnitude of the work that awaits her and that she knows the true meaning of leadership.
“I know for sure that leadership is not about appearance. Leadership is about results, it is about listening, it’s about working and delivering for the people who have trusted you. This is the kind of leadership I bring to Trans Nzoia,” noted Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations-Habitat in Nairobi.
She committed to listening to the women, men and the youths of Trans Nzoia County.
