The County Government of Uasin Gishu has launched a transformative blueprint aimed at expanding access to services, improving quality, and restoring dignity across its healthcare system.
At the heart of the plan is a new state-of-the-art healthcare facility under construction in Burnt Forest — already 60% complete.
Designed as an eco-integrated medical center, the facility is expected to ease the burden on overstretched regional hospitals while delivering modern, patient-centered care.
Speaking at the 4th Annual Morticians Allied Professionals Conference, Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea announced significant upgrades across health facilities in Ziwa, Kesses, and Turbo.
The improvements will focus on infrastructure, cutting-edge medical equipment, and improved working conditions for frontline staff.
“This is about access, quality, and dignity. We’re reshaping how healthcare looks and feels in Uasin Gishu — not just for today, but for generations to come,” Kapkea said.
Meanwhile, the Morticians’ Association, Secretary General appealed for greater investment in modern preservation tools and formal recognition of mortuary science as a critical discipline.
“Without trained morticians and proper facilities, even justice is compromised. We are not just handling remains — we are preserving truth, evidence, and dignity,” he said.
The call struck a chord with delegates, many of whom highlighted the rising demand for forensic accuracy and humane handling of the deceased, especially in medico-legal cases.
Health Services County Executive Joseph Lagat, accompanied by Chief Officer for Promotive and Preventive Health, Dr. Paul Wangwe, applauded morticians for their dedication, noting that their work is more than a profession — it is a calling in service to humanity.
