More than 500 women from across the Rift Valley region have benefited from a financial literacy training hosted by Safaricom Ndoto Zetu under the initiative ‘Wezesha Mama’.
The event was held on Wednesday at the Eldoret Special School Hall. It brought together women from diverse backgrounds and community groups stretching from Naivasha to Turkana.
According to Safaricom, the initiative aims to empower women with essential financial skills, including digital literacy, budgeting, and financial management.
Speaking during the event, Dorothy Karwitha, a participant from the Women Trust Group, praised the training for equipping her with practical knowledge.
“I have learned a lot. I now understand digital literacy, financial management, and the importance of budgeting before spending,” said Karwitha.
Safaricom’s Wezesha Mama program is part of the company’s broader commitment to support women’s economic empowerment through access to knowledge, technology, and resources that foster sustainable development.
“We believe that empowering women financially has a ripple effect on families, communities, and the economy at large,” said a Safaricom representative.
“Through initiatives like Wezesha Mama, we are investing in the future of Kenyan women and their potential to lead,” she added.
The training included sessions facilitated by financial experts, digital tools demonstrations, and peer learning opportunities aimed at fostering long-term financial independence.
