8 North Rift Politicians Nominated CASs

President William Ruto on March 16, 2023, nominated 50 individuals that will serve in different ministries in the position of Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS).

The nomination follows the conclusion of interviews that were done by the Public Service Commission (PSC).

PSC, upon conclusion of interviewing the 240 shortlisted candidates forwarded a list of successful ones to the head of state for nomination.

In the list of the 50 CAS nominees, there are at least 8 politicians from the North Rift.

The eight include former Uasin Gishu County Woman Member of Parliament aspirant Rael Jebichii Lelei, former Nandi gubernatorial candidate Allan Kosgey and former Keiyo South MP Jackson Kiptanui.

Former Keiyo South MP Jackson Kiptanui. He was also eyeing the Elgeyo Marakwet Senate seat.

Chebichii who lost the UDA nomination to Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Shollei has been nominated CAS in the Ministry of East African Community, the ASALs and Regional Development.

Allan Kosgey has been nominated CAS in the State Law Office. He is the one to former powerful Minister Henry Kosgey and lost in Nandi UDA gubernatorial nominations.

Kiptanui, has, on the other hand, been nominated for Agriculture and Livestock Development CAS.

Other politicians from the North Rift that have landed the CAS nomination include former Cherangany Member of Parliament Wesley Korir and former Kimilili MP Chris Wamalwa.

Korir who lost the MP seat in 2022 having vied on a UDA ticket has been nominated CAS in the Ministry of Sports, Arts and Culture while Wamalwa who lost in the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial bid is the CAS nominee Ministry of Water, Sanitation and irrigation.

Ex-Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa who was vying for the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat on a Ford Kenya ticket.

  • Allan Kibet Kosgey – State Law Office
  • Rael Chebichii Lele – EAC, ASALs and Regional Development
  • John Lodebe Nakara – Energy and Petroleum
  • Chris Wamalwa – Water, Sanitation and Irrigation
  • Wesley Korir – Youth Affairs, Arts and Sports
  • Lilian Cheptoo Tomitom – Investment, Trade and Industry
  • Jackson Kiptanui – Agriculture and Livestock Development
  • Mark Lomunokol – Education

The nominees will now be subject to vetting and approval by the National Assembly before they are formally appointed.
