Allois Cheruiyot Bett: Eldoret Catholic Diocese Priest Killed in Tot Bandit Attack

The Eldoret Catholic Diocese has been plunged into mourning following the brutal murder of a priest while on a mission in Tot, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

The priest, Rev. Fr. Allois Cheruiyot Bett, was killed on Thursday, May 22, 2025, after an attack by suspected bandits.

Eldoret Diocese Auxiliary Bishop John Kiplimo Arap Lelei confirmed the sad incident.

We are deeply saddened by the tragic and untimely death of Rev. Fr. Allois Cheruiyot Bett, who was attacked and killed this morning in Tot, Elgeyo-Marakwet County, while on his pastoral Work,” read a statement on Eldoret Catholic Diocese-run radio station Upendo FM’s Facebook page.

The church described the murder as senseless.

In addition, the Auxiliary Bishop said the late priest was a devoted servant of God, a compassionate soul, and a pillar of hope to many.

Fr. Allois was widely known for his unwavering commitment to his faith, his tireless service to the community, and his humility,” he noted.

May the soul of Rev. Fr. Allois Cheruiyot Bett rest in eternal peace,” he added..

Tot is within the Kerio Valley region, which has faced incidents of bandit attacks for the last few years.

However, the attacks have significantly dropped recently following the ongoing Operation Maliza Uhalifu.

It has been barely a month since Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen hosted the Jukwaa la Usalama event in the area to address insecurity.
