Breakdown of Number of New Voters IEBC Registered in North Rift Counties

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Wednesday, April 28, 2026, concluded the first phase of the enhanced continuous voter registration (ECVR).

During the exercise that started on March 30, 2026, 2.6 million new voters were registered, out of which 267,249 were under continuous voter registration, while 2,345,476 were registered under the ECVR.

Which counties had the highest number of new voters?

According to data from IEBC, Nairobi, Kiambu, Nakuru and Kakamega counties had the highest number of new voters registered.

Nairobi was at the top with 276,856 new voters, followed by Kiambu, which registered 128,859 new voters and Nakuru, which had 102,207 new voters, while Kakamega county registered 93,858 new voters.

Other counties with the highest number of new registered voters were Machakos (84,198), Bungoma (73,599), and Meru (67,651).

Top 10 counties with the highest number of new registered voters

  1. Nairobi – 276,886
  2. Kiambu – 128,859
  3. Kakamega – 93,858
  4. Machakos – 84,198
  5. Bungoma – 73,599
  6. Meru – 67,651
  7. Kilifi – 65,572
  8. Kisii – 65,152
  9. Uasin Gishu – 64,774
  10. Kitui – 61,839

New voters in the North Rift counties

Among the North Rift counties, Uasin Gishu had the highest number of new registered voters, ranking among the top 10 nationally with 64,773. It was followed by Turkana county, which had 58,428 new voters, Nandi county (52,630 new voters), and Trans Nzoia had 42,254.

West Pokot County registered 39,695 new voters while Baringo had 38,388. Elgeyo Marakwet had the lowest number of new registered voters among North Rift counties, with 29,740.

Breakdown of new voters in Western Kenya

In Western Kenya, Kakamega county topped with 93,858, followed by Bungoma at 73,599 new voters, Busia (39,311) and Vihiga (24,400)
