The Ministry of Health has released a list of 10 hospitals, based abroad, which have been contracted by the Social Health Authority (SHA) to offer medical services to teachers and other Kenyans seeking specialised treatment under the overseas package.
According to a statement issued by the ministry on April 28, 2026, SHA has finalised contracting overseas facilities to provide specialised, life-saving interventions for Kenyans.
“Several top hospitals in Turkey, Saudi Arabia and India have been contracted and the hospitals and guidelines for access on the SHA and TSC websites,” the ministry said.
“The first patient is leaving tonight for overseas treatment, and we therefore urge all teachers to make use of the contracted facilities,” it added.
Which hospitals are contracted to offer SHA overseas treatment?
A list provided by the Ministry of Health for hospitals contracted to offer teachers’ overseas treatment is:
- Acibadem Mehmet Ali Aydinlar University
- Atakent Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey
- Acibadem Maklak Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey
- Acibadem Altunizade, Instanbul, Turkey
- Acibadem Adana Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey
- Workhardt Hospital, Mumbai, India
- Dr Soliman Fakeeh Hospital, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
- King Faisal Specialised Hospital, Riyadh, South Africa
- Apollo Hospital Enterprise Ltd (Apollo Cancer Centre), Chennai, India
- Kims Hospital Enterprise Private Ltd, Andhra Pradesh, India.
Over 39 million Kenyans have already registered for SHA, with teachers, police officers and Kenya Prison Service officers also being covered under the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).
