Police officers in Ainabkoi, Uasin Gishu County are holding a 73-year-old man over possible links to the brutal murder of a 12-year-old boy.
According to a police report seen by Uasin Gishu News, the man identified as Solomon Kipsang Tarus was arrested at his home on the outskirts of Eldoret town on Thursday, March 23, 2023.
This is after investigations traced his car to the scene of crime where the body of the boy was found.
Police say they received a report from a village elder of Koilel area sub location, Lotonyok, Kaptagat ward that there was a vehicle that had dropped a body of a dead person becides the rad.
“Officers from Kapsoya led by OCS and DCIO Eldoret East visisted the scene and found the said unknown body of a juvenile approximately 12 years old lying dead beside the Koilel-Chepkoilel road,” read part of the police report.
The body, police say, had injuries at the back of the head and that blood was oozing from the anus.
Crime scene investigators processed the scene and later moved the body to the Moi Teaching and Refferal Hospital mortuary.
It is expected to be subjected to a postmortem to ascertain cause of death.
Meanwhile police say acting on information, they recovered a vehicle that locals had earlier seen dumping the body at the roadside.
The owner of the vehicle is the 73-year-old who has since been placed in police custody.
Blood-stained clothes
“On being questioned, he alledged that his son one Eric Kiptoo Kipsang aged 22 had asked for the car keys at about 0600hrsand went to collect milk from KCC,” said the police report.
However, detectives who gained entry into the son of the suspect’s son found assorted blood-stained clothes, a blood stained pillow and a basin full of blood stains.
The suspect has been placed into police custody for interrogation.
But the police report remained mum on the whereabouts of the 22-year-old son to the arrested suspect.
However, it is reported that the son was arrested in Illula on the outskirts of Eldoret town as he attempted to commit suicide.
The matter is now being handled by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations based in Eldoret East area.
