All rural areas in Uasin Gishu County are set to be connected to the rest of the urban centres and other neighbouring counties and beyond.
This is because of the ongoing ambitious program by Governor Jonathan Bii’s administration to open new roads in rural areas and improve on the existing ones across all the thirty wards.
According to the County Executive Member for Roads, Transport and Public Works Engineer Joseph Lagat, the new roads will not only help facilitate the movement of people and products in the County but will also ensure order and security in most parts.

“This will have a big impact on the people of Uasin Gishu. It is concrete evidence that Governor Bii’s administration is keen on improving the lives of the people, This will ease the burden of farmers in terms of transportation and delivery of products,” CECM Eng. Lagat said.
Travel time and cost
Around 800 Kilometres of roads have been graded and over 15 Kilometres of new roads opened since the program started late last year.
John Rotich, a resident from Megun ward in Kapseret Sub County pointed out that the construction of a new road that will connect Songoliet and Barnotik areas in Megun ward will address the difficulty of accessing essential needs and services and reduce the cost and time taken to travel.

Some of the projects include; grading and gravelling of the 6km Cheptiret -Chepkongony road in Cheptiret/Kipchamo ward in Kesses Sub County whose construction is ongoing, as well as completed dozing works of Usalama – Nyakinywa-Ngeny Road in Ainabkoi/Olare ward in Ainabkoi sub-county among others.
