Former Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr John Kibosia has opened up on events that led to his exit from the country’s largest public health facility.
Kibosia, who also served as the CEO of the Eldoret-based Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), revealed that an accidental mistake led to his removal from KNH.
Speaking during a YouTube interview with Dr Mathew Koech, Kibosia recalled how he received a call from then Health Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu informing him that he had been recalled to the ministry.
The call came hours after hosting alleged former president Mwai Kibaki’s second wife Mary Wambui.
“I served at KNH for two years, then I made a mistake one day. It was accidental or what. There was a lady called Wambui who was supposed to be Kibaki’s second wife. She appeared in the hospital and wanted to see people, so I took her around. That was the first time I was meeting her, and she had security,” Dr Kibosia recalled.
“We went around, and I came home to Moiben. Then I got a call from Ngilu who told me I had done a bad thing and I had to leave KNH the following day and report to the ministry. That evening, she announced that I had been recalled and an acting CEO was named,” he added.
Dr Kibosia further revealed that at the Ministry, the then Principal Secretary Dr James Nyikal asked him to take leave to allow him to find a position he would serve. He ended up staying at home for six months, while still earning a salary, before he received a letter appointing him as director of the prisons services, which was at the time under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Dr Kibosia would later be appointed as MTRH CEO, where he served until 2015 when he handed over to Dr Wilson Aruasa.
