Eldoret: Body of Man who Fell into Pit Latrine While Repairing it Recovered

The County government of Uasin Gishu’s fire brigade on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, retrieved a man’s body from a pit latrine at a residential home in Saba Saba area, Munyaka estate in the outskirts of Eldoret City.

County chief fire officer David Sitati said an interrogation of residents indicated that the man fell into the latrine while repairing it.

Sitati said the man had been hired to repair the pit latrine which has been in use.

He was reportedly warned to take safety measures because of dangerous and defective state of the structure. However he continued with the repair works.

The area village elder Christopher Mundia confirmed that the deceased who was only identified as Kiiru Giteru slipped into the latrine after part of its floor suddenly caved in while he was demolishing sections of the walls.

His body was later moved to Moi Teaching and Refferal Hospital Mortuary.

This is even as police continue with investigations into the incident.

Meanwhile, the county fire chief fire officer advised locals to follow safety measures when repairing pit latrines and boreholes.
