President William Ruto is currently in the United States of America, where he is attending the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The president and his delegation left the country on the night of Sunday, September 19, 2026. Uasin Gishu News takes a look at some of the leaders accompanying the head of state.
Who are the CSs attending UNGA
At least seven Cabinet Secretaries are part of the Kenyan delegation at the United Nations General Assembly. They include Julius Ogamba (Education), Hassan Joho (Mining), William Kabogo (ICT), Aden Duale (Health), Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi, as well as the Prime Cabinet Secretary, who is also the Foreign Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi.
From the political leaders, among those in the Kenyan delegation are Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waigiru, Mombasa’s Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago and his Narok counterpart Ledama Ole Kina, as well as Belgut Member of Parliament Nelson Koech.
SHA Chief Executive Officer Dr Mercy Mwangani and Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga are other government officials who accompanied Ruto to the assembly.
Africa Clean Cooking Summit
At the Assembly, President Ruto has a packed schedule. On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, he co-hosted with Norway the first high-level event on clean cooking in Africa held during UNGA in New York, ahead of the Second Africa Clean Cooking Summit in Nairobi in January.
In a post on his X handle, the head of state said clean cooking is energy infrastructure, vital to public health, economic opportunity and Africa’s green transition. Achieving universal access requires investment.
“We must mobilise capital through local-currency financing, guarantees and other instruments that turn demand into viable projects. Kenya is leading with a $600 million investment opportunity across schools, healthcare facilities and correctional institutions,” he added.
