Eldoret Journalist Calls for Recognition of Fr Allois Bett, Arap Uria for Inspiring Communities

An Eldoret-based journalist has asked President William Ruto to consider recognising several outstanding community heroes in the North Rift region with state honours and awards.

In an open letter to the president, the journalist, Leonard Arap Kirwa, said the individuals have made extraordinary contributions to the peace, unity, and well-being of the society.

Does Fr Allois Bett deserve a state honor?

Top on the list of those Kirwa wants honoured is the late Catholic priest, Allois Cheruiyot Bett.

Bett was killed by suspended bandits in the Kerio Valley region where he had worked tirelessly to bring peace.

I wish to humbly request that the late Fr. Allois Cheruiyot Bett, who paid the ultimate price while working tirelessly to bring peace and reconciliation in the Kerio Valley, be considered for a posthumous State Award,” Kirwa noted in the open letter seen by Uasin Gishu News.

His sacrifice stands as a powerful symbol of courage and devotion to the unity of our people,” he added.

Others that the Upendo FM presenter wants to be considered for recognition are content creators Arap Uria, Gogo Small, Kapkeno and MC Samir.

He says the four have made remarkable contributions in society, helping fundraise for the members of society in need of medical help.

These young men have become outstanding examples of modern community service through their innovative use of social media to organize online harambees that have helped countless Kenyans access urgent medical care and other humanitarian needs. Their creativity, empathy, and patriotism have touched lives far beyond their home,” the journalist said.

Your Excellency, their actions represent the very best of our national values,” he added.

Kirwa argues that recognizing them through national honors will not only celebrate their efforts but also inspire millions of young Kenyans to use their talents and influence for the good of our society.
