The construction of a new ultra-modern Mother and Baby Unit at Chegilet has commenced with a groundbreaking ceremony.
This significant project is a key initiative to address Mother and Child Health needs across the Kerio Valley belt.
Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich presided over the ceremony alongside Esther Waititu, the Chief Financial Services Officer at Safaricom.

The new facility, a partnership between the County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet and the Safaricom MPESA Foundation will be comprehensively equipped to provide critical healthcare services.
Key features will include a modern maternity wing a dedicated theatre, Ante-Natal and Post-Natal Wards, consultation rooms as well as isolation and inpatient wards.
Upon completion, the unit will significantly enhance the quality and accessibility of specialized healthcare for mothers and infants in the region.

The Governor extended his gratitude to Safaricom MPESA Foundation for the continued support.
“I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the Safaricom MPESA Foundation for their continued and invaluable support of our county’s development and health goals,” he said.
Also present were area MCA Christopher Cheboiboch, Health CECM Monica Rotich, Chief Officers Jeremiah Chirchir, and Charity Kimaiyo, among other county staff.
