Uasin Gishu County Chief Officer for Clinical Services, Ambrose Tarus, on Thursday, July 30, 2026, oversaw a massive, free medical screening camp at the ACK Rehabilitation Centre, where hundreds of children and adults living with physical disabilities received specialised assessments.
The healthcare exercise is the result of a strategic partnership between the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) and AIC-CURE Children’s Hospital of Kenya. By deploying a specialised mobile team of orthopaedic and plastic surgeons directly to Eldoret, the initiative provides life-altering interventions entirely free of charge.
“Our objective is to bring accessible, high-quality, and specialised clinical care right to our communities,” noted Chief Officer Ambrose Tarus during his intensive inspection of the outreach camp.
CO Tarus lauded the collaborative effort, emphasising that public-private partnerships with specialised entities like CURE Kenya are central to achieving the county’s devolved healthcare goals. He highly commended the medical teams for their dedication and reiterated the local government’s commitment to expanding local diagnostic networks to catch congenital and physical conditions early.
Conditions assessed during free medical camp at ACK Rehabilitation Centre
For the hundreds of anxious families arriving from across the North Rift region, the presence of top-tier specialists represents an answer to years of desperate prayers. Conditions such as clubfoot, bowed legs, knock knees, cleft lips, amputations, and debilitating burn contractures carry severe social stigma alongside steep, often impossible, economic burdens for local households.
What sets this outreach camp apart is its comprehensive delivery model, where every single consultation conducted is 100% free. More importantly, any person identified during the screening as requiring corrective surgery will have their surgical operations, hospital stay, accommodation, and subsequent rehabilitation fully funded at CURE’s specialised facility in Kijabe.
As the screening camp winds down, healthcare organisers and county officials are making a passionate plea to guardians and parents. Those who missed today’s physical exercise but have family members living with treatable physical disabilities are strongly urged to utilise available remote desks to coordinate immediate follow-up care.
