Former The Eldoret National Polytechnic (TENP) Deputy Principal (Academics) James Mwangi has called on Kenyan youths to take the lead in creating jobs.

Speaking after the graduation of International Youth Fellowship (IYF) students at the Free Weekend Academy, Mwangi emphasized the importance of skills-based courses in job creation.

He noted that the three-month certificate obtained by the youths would enable them to fit into the industry and job market.

These skills are important as they not only allow graduates to employ themselves but also create employment for others. It is a great opportunity for other youths to join and acquire skills that will help them secure jobs and become job creators,” said Mwangi.

He also congratulated the 64 youths who graduated in the Free Weekend Academy’s Season 3 graduation ceremony.

According to Mwangi, the students who graduated with skills in hairdressing, electrical installation, the French language, and dealing with abnormal behaviors now have the power to bring change to society.

In addition, the former Eldoret National Polytechnic deputy principal emphasized that having skills is equivalent to having power and is a crucial tool in national development.

One of the most powerful ways to develop a country is by equipping youths with skills. Giving someone a skill is like giving them currency—skills are the currency of the 21st century,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mwangi stressed that with the right skills, individuals can find employment not only in Kenya but also across the world.
