The Ministry of Health has finalized preparations for the deployment of the 2026/2027 internship cohort, with 6,360 healthcare pre-interns set to begin their 12-month internship program on July 1, 2026.
In a press release issued Friday, June 26, 2026, the Ministry said the internship program is “a critical step in equipping pre-interns with the hands-on experience necessary to deliver quality and responsive healthcare services to the people of Kenya,” in line with its mandate to ensure a skilled and competent health workforce.
Breakdown of 2026 internship placement
The interns will be posted across various healthcare facilities nationwide. The distribution is as follows:
- Medical Officer Interns: 875
- Dental Officer Interns: 69
- Pharmacy Officer Interns: 615
- BSc Nursing Officer Interns: 2,000
- BSc Clinical Officer Interns: 705
- Clinical Officer Interns (Diploma)
Cabinet Secretary for Health Aden Duale announced that all eligible pre-interns must collect their internship offer letters in person on Monday, June 29, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. at the Ministry of Health Headquarters, Afya House, Nairobi.

The Ministry emphasized that offer letters will only be issued upon presentation of a valid National Identity Card.
The posting comes as Kenya continues to address staffing needs in public health facilities, with the new cohort expected to strengthen service delivery across the country’s healthcare system.
