The County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet has partnered with a Canadian Foundation to launch the Iten Trail Run to raise awareness and support athletes to be resilient to injuries in the course of their careers.
The race, which will see the winners walk away with prize money worth Ksh500,000, will be held on Saturday, 9th March in Iten.
A statement from the county indicates that the event is supported by a Canadian-based organization – The Running Clinic Foundation, and will consist of a 25km both men and women and a 2km kids race.

Further, the race aims to help educate and reduce the risk of injury in each runner, helping them progress towards their running goals.
Help runners be in the best form
The Running Clinic team, led by founder Blaise Dubois, were hosted at the County Headquarters by Deputy Governor Prof Grace Cheserek on Monday.
Blaise said the race aims to help runners be in best form of speed and personal bests, whilst improving their resilience to physical injuries.
“Sports and fitness determine your quality of life. People with an amputation have to achieve a higher level of fitness than people without disabilities. But we shouldn’t forget the positive effect that training has on our mental well-being as well,” he added.
On her part, Prof. Cheserek thanked the Running Clinic Foundation for the initiative brought to the County.

“As we are preparing for the 3rd edition of the Iten International marathon, it’s great to see initiatives like this promoting health and education in the running community. Education on the physical well-being of our athletes is key,” the DG said.
Also present during the launch were the County Executive for Sports Purity Koima, Chief officers, and Directors among others.
