The County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet has come out to issue a clarification following reports that Deputy Governor Prof Grace Cheserek had resigned.
Reports on multiple mainstream media had indicated that Cheserek had already tendered a resignation.
The resignation, media reports indicated, was due to her impending state job appointment.
She has been linked to appointment as the new Teachers Service Commission (TSC) chairperson.

But in a statement on Saturday, February 15, 2025, the county insisted Prof Cheserek was still the deputy governor.
“The County Governor of Elgeyo Marakwet wishes to respond to reports circulating in the media regarding the resignation of Deputy Governor Prof Grace Cheserek, ” read part of the statement issued by the Director of Governor’s Press Service.
“It is hereby notified to the general public that the Deputy Governor has not tendered her resignation,” it added.
The county noted that the DG continues to discharge her duties as the principal assistant to Governor Wisely Rotich.
Her recent event, the Governor’s Press Service noted, was last Monday where she joined the county boss in hosting officials from the Ministry of Devolution at the county headquarters in Iten Town.
“The public is therefore advised to treat information on her resignation inaccurate,” the statement noted.

Before her nomination by Rotich as his running mate ahead of the 2022 General Elections, Prof Cheserek was a lecturer at the University of Eldoret.
