Mama Rachel Ruto Maternity Hospital in Eldoret town has received a generous donation of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) testing kits from the International Cancer Institute (ICI).
The testing kits are aimed at strengthening cervical cancer screening and increasing early detection among women of reproductive age.
Speaking while receiving the donations on Thursday, July 3, 2025, Preventive and Promotive Health Chief Officer Dr Paul Wangwe said the initiative is expected to significantly reduce late-stage diagnoses, cut mortality rates, and complement existing HPV vaccination programs for adolescent girls.

HPV is the leading cause of cervical cancer.
“This partnership marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to protect the health of our women and girls because It highlights how collaboration between government and partners like ICI is key to building a healthier future,” said Dr Wangwe.
The donation will go a long way to ensuring quality, timely, and affordable healthcare amongst locals in Uasin Gishu County, aligning with Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim’s promise under the health sector.
It also reaffirms the power of public-private partnerships in delivering life-saving services and improving health outcomes.
