Uasin Gishu First Lady Mama Salina Bii, has asked business establishments across the county to install breastfeeding booths.
The booths, the county first lady said, will offering a safe and private spaces for nursing mothers.
She spoke during the commemoration of World Breastfeeding Week at Mama Rachel Ruto Maternity Hospital.
Rupa’s Mall establishes breastfeeding booth
Later, Mrs. Bii officially unveiled a newly installed breastfeeding booth at Rupa’s Mall.
She hailed the initiative as a significant step in supporting mothers and enhancing children’s immunity, especially in working environments.
“When mothers are supported to breastfeed, we empower the next generation with strong immunity and a healthy start to life,” she said. “Businesses must step up and be part of this transformation.”
Mrs. Bii also reaffirmed her continued support for efforts that promote the health and well-being of mothers and children, particularly in public and professional spaces.

Preventive and Promotive Health Chief Officer, Dr. Paul Wangwe, noted that the county is actively implementing plans to establish breastfeeding spaces in all sub-county hospitals and major markets.
“Our goal is to improve access and ensure that mothers can breastfeed comfortably wherever they are. Since we opened the Uasin Gishu County Hospital breastfeeding space, over 400 staff members have benefited,” Dr. Wangwe stated.
In addition, Eldoret City Manager Elzeba Busienei welcomed the growing movement, saying the initiative reflects the county’s respect for women and young children.
“This is about dignity. It shows we value our women and recognize the critical role they play in nurturing future generations,” she said.
