Traders operating within the Kapsabet town market have relocated to the new ultra-modern fresh produce market behind the town.
The more than 400 traders had been allocated stalls at the new site which is designed to hold various businesses.

The new site will accommodate grocery traders, traders dealing in household supplies and accessories, hotels, saloons and shops.
The relocation follows a series of meetings and consultations between the traders, municipality management, chamber of commerce and the county department of trade.

According to Kapsabet Municipality Manager Alfayo Lel, the relocation is aimed at providing a long-term solution to traders who will operate in a conducive environment complete with proper sanitation and floodlights to promote late-night trading.
Kapsabet town’s reorganisation plan
Last year, Kapsabet Municipality unveiled a plan that once implemented would reshape Kapsabet Town’s planning.
The plan, aimed at addressing the rapid growth of Kapsabet Municipality, outlines strategic initiatives to densify existing urban spaces and expand into surrounding areas.
This approach seeks to accommodate population growth, attract investments, and provide the infrastructure needed for major events, ensuring the town’s continued vibrancy.
The first major proposed change involves relocating the Kapsabet market from its current constrained 2-acre site to the 8.7-acre Kipchoge Keino Stadium land. The existing market, which serves about 600 traders in suboptimal conditions, will be moved to a new, modern complex that can accommodate over 5,000 traders.
