Kipchumba Murkomen Commissions Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Standard Duty Vehicles at GSU Headquarters

The Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Kipchumba Murkomen has commissioned a new batch of Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Standard Duty Vehicles (MRAPS) at GSU Headquarters, Ruaraka.

The CS assured that the Government of Kenya, under the leadership of President William Ruto through the Bottom- Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) has prioritized the police equipment modernization program.

The program has been implemented over the last two and half years to make sure that the National Police Service (NPS) Officers are equipped with the necessary equipment and protective gear for their safety and to effectively perform their duties.

This is a great milestone in institutional reforms to build the capacity of our officers with the latest technology to tackle emerging crimes, complex situations and secure our borders,” Murkomen said.

These vehicles will assist in fighting cattle rusting and banditry in northern parts of the country and other far-flung areas,” he added.

Has cattle rusting and banditry been contained in Kenya?

He further noted that as a result of these interventions, the criminal elements who were operating in volatile areas have been stamped out and crimes such as cattle rustling and banditry have significantly scaled down by over 70 percent.

Murkomen further congratulated the NPS Officers, led by the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, for their role in ensuring the country remains safe and secure.

However, a few elements who have gone contrary to the Constitution and the NPS Standing Orders must be dealt with through the laid-down procedures,” he said.

The IG on his part expressed gratitude to CS Murkomen for the support that the Ministry of Interior continues to accord the Service, which has resulted in efficient execution of NPS mandate.

The commissioning of the MRAPs was witnessed by PS Interior, Dr. Raymond Omollo, Chairperson NPSC Eliud Kinuthia, DIG-KPS, Eliud Lagat, DIG-APS, Gilbert Masengeli, Director DCI Mohamed I. Amin, among other senior officers.
