United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala has called on Western Kenya region leaders to suspend 2032 succession politics and concentrate on serving the electorates.
Speaking in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, Malala said it is premature to discuss 2032 succession politics at the expense of unemployed youths.
“I want to beseech you Western leaders, you are already in power, please let us suspend the rhetorics of succession politics. We cannot discuss 2032 politics when we have several unemployed youths in our region,” the UDA Secretary General said.
He further urged all elected leaders in the vote-rich region to support President William Ruto so that he delivers his campaign promises.
Malala was reacting to sentiments made by some Members of Parliament led by Kiminini MP Kakai Bisau, Patrick Simiyu (Cherang’any), Martin Pepela (Webuye East) and Ferdinand Wanyonyi (Kwanza) that National Assembly Speaker and FORD Kenya Party Leader Moses Wetangula is fit to succeed President Ruto.
Earlier on, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi had called on the people of Western region to rally behind Wetangula.
“Wetangula is a great servant leader and like the Swahili saying that the strength of water is determined by the rock, his strength lies with you people” Kingi said.
Senior-most politician
Speaking at the same event, Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Susan Nakhumicha took a swipe at some leaders she accused of trying to equate themselves with Wetangula.
“I have heard some politicians who want to equate their political strength with that of Moses Wetangula. Even I cannot do that because he is the senior most politician in our region,” Nakhumicha said.
Although Wetangula did not comment about succession politics, he urged residents of Trans Nzoia and the larger Western region to be united.
He also appreciated Trans Nzoia farmers for taking up an active role in the government’s food and nutrition security agenda.
“When President Ruto took over power, the cost of fertilizer was over Ksh6,000 but the fertilizer is now sold at Ksh2,500 because we have a business of feeding the nation,” the National Assembly Speaker said.
