Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago has called on the security agencies to ensure individuals behind incitement leaflets that were circulated in parts of the county are arrested and prosecuted.
In a press release, Mandago said reports of the leaflets were worrying, and meant to cause fear, disharmony and undermine efforts that have been put in place to promote peaceful coexistence and cohesion in Uasin Gishu County.
“The perpetrators of this criminal act have an intention of portraying one community perceived to be aligned to a section of the political divide as aggressors and bring confusion amongst the different communities living in Uasin Gishu,” the governor said in part of the statement, dated March 1, 2022.

According to the county boss, they have all tirelessly, in collaboration with national government agencies including National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), other political leaders, security agencies, the clergy and the local council of elders to build, entrench and maintain peace and tranquility as a key pillar of development and economic growth.
“The efforts we have put in place in promotion of peace activities and harmony have borne fruits to the point that we are confident that there will be no violence during the ongoing political campaigns and in the upcoming general elections,” he said.
Mandago noted that any aspirant irrespective of their political affiliation was welcome to seek votes in Uasin Gishu without fear.

He also asked Uasin Gishu residents, whom he referred to as peace loving to remain vigilant and reject any form of threats and incitement meant to achieve ill political intentions.
Mandago, however, did not share details of the said leaflets and areas that they had been circulated.
The Governor’s director of communication Silas Tarus reached for a comment on the matter said, the county boss was acting on intelligence reports and that, he believes, he has shared details with the security team in the county.
