Access to maternal services at Moi’s Bridge health facility in Uasin Gishu are soon set for a major improvement.
This follows plans by the County Government in Partnership with Safaricom Foundation to construct a new Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH) wing at the facility.
What will Moi’s Bridge Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health unit comprise of?
The new wing will feature a 7-bed delivery unit, a fully equipped theatre, neonatal Baby Unit (NBU). emergency room, elantenatal and postnatal wards as well as Kangaroo Mother Care unit.
It will also have a first and second stage rooms and nutritionist consultation room
In addition, the upper floor will provide specialized care, including general, semi-private, and private postnatal wards, two procedure rooms, and a dedicated section for high-risk and critically ill mothers and babies.
On Tuesday, a team from the Department of Health Services—comprising Monitoring and Evaluation officers led by Gerry Luvai, Public-Private Partnerships Coordinator David Tirop, and Physical Planning officers—inspected the proposed construction site.

Moi’s Bridge health facility has been operational since 1992. Over the years, it has grown into a vital healthcare hub, serving more than 345,000 residents across Kakamega, Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, and Elgeyo Marakwet counties.
With a strong and diverse team of healthcare professionals, the hospital currently handles an average of 90–98 deliveries each month and serves over 200 expectant mothers from both rural and peri-urban areas.
