Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) has extended a hand of solidarity to families affected by the recent Chesongoch mudslide in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
In a brief ceremony held at the Hospital, the Chief Executive Officer, Dr Philip Kirwa, officially handed over staff donations to the Elgeyo Marakwet County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Health, Ms Monica Rotich.
The contributions—voluntarily made by MTRH employees—comprised essential food items, clothing, and hygiene supplies to support households impacted by the tragedy.

This humanitarian gesture underscores MTRH’s enduring commitment to community welfare, besides providing healthcare services.
While receiving the donations, the CEC expressed gratitude to both MTRH and its staff for their timely intervention and compassion toward affected families.
She also noted that the support would supplement ongoing County efforts to provide relief and restore dignity to victims.
The CEO commended staff for their unity and empathy, observing that the incident has affected many across the region. He reaffirmed the Hospital’s commitment to partnering with County authorities in delivering both medical and humanitarian support whenever needed.
MEDS offers humanitarian support to the Chesongoch mudslide victims
Meanwhile, Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies (MEDS) has made a donation valued at Ksh 1 million towards the health needs of victims of the mudslide tragedy in the County.
MEDS team led by Head of Commercial, Titus Munene, on Saturday, November 15, 2025, delivered the donation, which included medical supplies, hospital beds and foodstuffs from the institution.
Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich, who received the donation at his office, expressed the County’s heartfelt appreciation to MEDS for the tremendous show of compassion and solidarity.

He added that the County had sought support to reopen Chesongoch Mission Hospital, which was among the critical infrastructure severely affected by the mudslides.
“We are working closely with the Catholic Diocese of Eldoret, under the leadership of Bishop Rt. Rev. Dominic Kimengich on this. We have also mobilised partners for the essential task of rebuilding the hospital,” he said.
