NOREB Governors Sign MoU with KVDA, NCCK

Governors from the North Rift Economic Bloc (NOREB) have signed separate Memorandum of Understanding with the National Council of Churches of Kenya and the Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA).

According to a statement from the NOREB secretariat, the MoU signing is a progression of the commitment by County governments to partner with like-minded institutions to implement joint ventures for the betterment of the lives of their people.

The MoU has set a framework for implementation of community empowerment initiatives.

To promote sustainable development and social cohesion, we will have joint initiatives in dignified livelihoods, governance, good security, education, health, climate change and empowerment of marginalized groups,” read part of a joint statement to the press from the NOREB secretariat.

Our determination is to promote participatory project design, resourcing, implementation and monitoring, with a commitment to reach the youth, women, and persons with disabilities,” it added.

Governors who signed the MoU are from Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Samburu, Trans Nzoia, Turkana, Uasin Gishu and West Pokot counties.

NOREB governors sign Inter County Climate Change Cooperation Agreement

The governors have also signed the Inter County Climate Change Cooperation Agreement, under which they will synergize structures and policies to conserve the ecosystem and mitigate climate change.

Under the agreement , counties will harmonize climate-related laws and plans, enhancing the participation of youth, women, persons with disabilities and indigenous communities in climate governance and climate change actions.

The NCCK will provide a monitoring and evaluation framework for the engagements so as to improve community resilience,” the statement noted.

Further, the governors launched the NOREB Climate Change Action Plan that was developed in partnership with the NCCK.

NOREB governor’s MoU with the Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA) seeks to foster sustainable socio-economic development.

It will focus on climate smart agriculture, enhance business environments, promote sustainable production, and diversify income generating activities for economic growth.
