Starting December 1, 2022, passengers travelling to Nairobi from Rift Valley and Western Kenya will be dropped at a new matatu stage – Green Park Terminus.
This is after the county government of Nairobi announced that it will be relocating some of the long-distance Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) from the Nairobi CBD to the new terminus.
For years now, passengers travelling to Western Kenya and Rift valley were being dropped at or around the famous Afya Centre area.
But with the latest changes, commuters, especially those new to Nairobi, will have to get another landmark that will help them locate the town.
However, according to acting Nairobi County Secretary Jairus Musumba, a decision to relocate the matatu stage from the CBD was reached following a stakeholder meeting.

“It was resolved that effective December 1, 2022, all PSVs Saccos and PSV companies offering services between Nyanza, Western, North Rift, South Rift, and Central Rift who are currently operating from Nairobi’s CBD will be relocated to the Green Park Terminus in the 1st Phase,” Musumba said in a notice.
Decongesting Nairobi
Relocation of the matatu stages is part of the Nairobi county government’s effort to decongest the country’s capital.
Further, a notice for the relocation of some of the stages come just days after Governor Johnson Sakaja said the Green Park Terminus will be opened on December 1, 2022.
Sakaja, also said some PSVs will be forced to move out of their current places of operations.
“The Green Park terminus is really good. It has good facilities and adequate space. Those travelling upcountry should be ready to board from Green Park beginning December 1. We are relocating all long-distance PSVs there,” the county boss said.

The terminus was constructed by the defunct Nairobi Metropolitan Services at a cost of Ksh250 million.
It was initially meant for matatus operating along Lang’ata and Ngong Road routes.
However, the previous pilot for the terminus use had failed to yield anticipated fruits.
