Safaricom and Huawei CBS Accelerate Telecom Innovation with AI-Driven “Idea-to-Cash” Transformation

Safaricom, Kenya’s leading telecommunications provider, and Huawei’s CBS Billing team are pioneering a transformative leap in telecom operations through their joint innovation on an AI-powered “Idea to Cash” solution.

This initiative leverages cutting-edge AI large model technology to intelligently optimise Safaricom’s core offer monetisation processes.

A dedicated cross-functional team, combining Safaricom’s IT department, product, and business experts with Huawei’s CBS product specialists, has been driving this innovation since July 2025.

The collaboration focuses on deeply integrating AI across key stages:

  1. Intelligent Offer Design: AI analyses vast datasets (user behaviour, market trends) to generate data-driven offer concepts and tariff strategies, significantly enhancing design speed and market potential prediction.
  2. Automated Configuration & Rapid Launch: Complex tariff configurations are intelligently generated from natural language requirements, dramatically reducing manual configuration errors and testing cycles. This enables “near real-time” offer launches, a stark contrast to traditional timelines.
  3. Hyper-Personalized Marketing: AI dynamically matches users with the most relevant offers based on rich profiles and real-time context, enabling highly targeted, personalised marketing campaigns that boost conversion rates and customer value.

This AI-infused Idea to Cash solution represents a significant advancement in the Convergent Billing System (CBS).

Benefits of Safaricom and Huawei CBS partnership

Key benefits already emerging include drastically shortened time-to-market for new offerings, enhanced operational efficiency through automation, reduced human error, as well as the delivery of highly relevant, personalised customer experiences. Early indicators point towards tangible improvements in offer adoption and revenue growth.

This partnership with Huawei marks a significant milestone in our journey to accelerate innovation and deliver superior customer experiences. By integrating AI-driven capabilities into our core business systems, we are not only enhancing operational efficiency but also enabling faster, more agile product launches,” said Chief Technology Information Officer at Safaricom, James Maitai.

This collaboration positions us to anticipate customer needs, respond to market dynamics in real time, and unlock new opportunities for growth in the digital economy,” he added.

Safaricom and Huawei remain committed to exploring further applications of AI large models to revolutionise telecom service delivery and operational excellence.
