330 young people in Elgeyo Marakwet have completed practical digital skills training under the Huawei DigiTruck programme.
The programme is a partnership between the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy and Huawei, with Computers for Schools Kenya and the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner as delivery partners.
Speaking at the ceremony, Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum Opiyo Wandayi,who was the Chief Guest, said ICT knowledge is no longer optional.
He praised the innovative use of KPLC infrastructure to extend the fibre network, which is already delivering connectivity.
Additionally, ICT Principal Secretary Eng. Tanui urged the youth to embrace continuous learning and turn their skills into innovation, job creation and a stronger contribution to Kenya’s digital economy.
He further noted that scaling digital inclusion requires collaboration between government, private-sector partners and communities.
Equipped with their new skills, the 330 graduates can now pursue digital jobs, online business, further training and community-level innovation—deepening digital inclusion in Elgeyo Marakwet and beyond.
The ceremony brought together leaders, partners and beneficiaries to celebrate the trainees’ achievement.
In attendance were Elgeyo Marakwet Senator William Kisang, local leaders, government officials, Huawei representatives, trainees and community members.
