Residents of Sikinwa Sub-Location, Saboti Constituency in Trans Nzoia County are living in fear following the discovery of a list with 44 names.
The list was discovered on Wednesday in the house of one of the locals suspected to have been kept for ulterior motives.
On realization that 11 of the 44 names marked with a red pen belong to people who have passed on, the angry residents who milled around the house of the suspect Dismas Olumasi Ichaka and his wife Ann Ichaka torched it and other properties.
Nancy Chebet, a resident who is number 11 on the list said they were shocked over the incident. She said when they interrogated the two; they could not answer why they kept the list in their house.
“The names that have been marked with a red pen are of people who have already died. As we are speaking, I am listed as number 11 and I don’t know what to do,” said the terrified Chebet.

She further revealed that of the remaining 33 names of still-alive people, they are supposed to be dead before 2025.
Charles Kiriongi, another resident on the mysterious list said he suspects he found himself on the list after he went to the family to grieve with them when they lost one of their children.
“My brother who passed on in 1999 is on the list. A nurse who fell ill just for one day and died is also on the list among other nine people. We want to know the motive of the secret list,” Kiriongi said.
Follow due process
Another resident said her blood pressure rose when she realized her name as well as his husband’s name was part of the list.
Sikinwa Sub-Location Assistant Chief Willy Kibet called on the residents to come out and record statements to facilitate the proper legal process.
“You know very well that any legal process begins with the recording of statements from members of the public. Therefore, I urge you to do the same so we follow due process,” Kibet said.

When the names were read out, the 33 residents listed were shocked because they did not know the motive of the list.
The couple was whisked to safety by the area chief because the residents were baying for their blood.
A probe into the motive behind the mysterious list has since been launched.
