Uasin Gishu County Keen on Ensuring Road Projects Are Completed On Time

The ongoing maintenance of urban roads and streets, such as the tarmacking of Bandaptai Road and paving of Famers Street in Eldoret City, is among the infrastructure development projects Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii’s administration anticipates will not only improve transport infrastructure for economic and social growth but also ensure farmers’ easier access to markets and agricultural inputs.

Under this programme, the devolved unit is working with other partners like Kenya Urban Roads (KURA) and the World Bank on the upgrade of roads and opening of drainages to control storm waters that have been a challenge for business owners and residents for many years.

Why Uasin Gishu is improving urban and rural roads

As envisioned in his ‘Nguzo Kumi’ development pillar number six on infrastructure development, the improvement of roads both in urban and rural areas will also make the movement of goods and services reach the markets without any hitch.

Previously, while on an inspection of the ongoing projects in Eldoret City, Governor Bii reiterated his government’s commitment to improving mobility across the county and ensuring that the road network is improved to enable farmers and residents to transport farm produce to markets at an affordable cost.

The road improvement plan we have for our urban roads will involve opening drainages and tarmacking more roads. We want to have a smooth traffic flow in Eldoret town,” said Governor Bii.

Uasin Gishu county’s Asphalt plant

Roads, Transport and Public Works CECM Eng. Joseph Lagat says the county is planning to have an Asphalt plant that will run as an independent entity to further boost infrastructure development projects across the county.

The Governor’s target of ensuring that every financial year we gravel 300 kilometres of interward roads and tarmacking of at least one kilometre in every urban set up will be achieved easily if we realise this dream,” he said.

Other major road maintenance projects are ongoing in Mwanzo, Shauri, Maili Nne and Kipkaren estates.
