A team from the County Government of Uasin Gishu, activated by Governor Dr Jonathan Bii, has intensified efforts to unblock and clear drainage systems.
The team is actively offering services in the most affected areas and remains available to respond to emergencies across the county.
This is even as the county continues to witness heavy rains.
On Thursday, August 21, 2025, the team from the Department of Roads, Transport, and Public Works—led by the Director of Roads, Eng. Julius Ronoh, Director of Administration, Mark Tarus, and Deputy Director of Roads, Linus Yego, inspected ongoing drainage unblocking works in parts of Kuinet/Kapsuswa Ward.

The exercise aims to ensure the smooth flow of excess water and minimise damage, especially on roads. The team also assessed damages along the Kapleketet road, which has been earmarked for repair.
Uasin Gishu County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Roads, Abraham Serem, noted that the ongoing exercise will not only help manage stormwater runoff and enhance public safety, but also improve lives by preventing waterborne diseases and protecting property from damage.
“This initiative aligns with Governor Bii’s vision under Nguzo Kumi pillar number Six on infrastructure development, which seeks to facilitate economic growth, enable the efficient movement of people and goods, and boost agricultural productivity through a well-connected road network,” Serem said.

Similar exercises have also been done in other parts of the county affected by the ongoing rains, including Jasho, Ngeria Ward, Kapseret Ward and Malel village in Simat/Kapseret Ward.
“There is a lot of emergency work to be done because of the ongoing rains. We are keen on fulfilling Governor Bii’s vision to make sure that all roads damaged as a result of heavy rains are repaired,” stated Dr Serem when he visited some of the areas last week.
The CECM-led team also inspected ongoing drainage works along the AIC Mlimani Church-Kipkeino School road, where residents thanked the county government for addressing their plight.
