AFCON 2027: Local Organising Committee Inspects Facilities in Eldoret to Assess Preparedness

Uasin Gishu County on Saturday, August 15, 2026, hosted the African Cup of Nation’s (AFCON 2027) local organising committee leadership.

The LOC team led by chairperson Nicholas Musonye was in the county to assess Eldoret City’s preparedness yo host AFCON 2027.

Among the facilities assessed include Kipchoge Keino Stadium, 64 Stadium, hotels, hospitals and proposed training facilities at Hill School, Uasin Gishu High School, Eldoret Polytechnic and the University of Eldoret.

Earlier, the team met with Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim and several other senior county officials including Sports CECM Robert Kemei and his Trade and Tourism counterpart Dr Phillip Chebunet.

Eldoret has a unique opportunity to leverage AFCON 2027 to accelerate development, create opportunities for our young people and businesses, and position our city as a leading destination for sports, tourism, hospitality, trade, investment and enterprise,” Dr Chebunet said.

Additionally, the Trade county executive said Uasin Gishu County Government remains committed to supporting the preparations and working with all stakeholders to ensure that Eldoret is ready to welcome Africa and the world.

Eldoret is ready. Uasin Gishu is ready. Kenya is ready,” he said.

Kenya will co-host AFCON 2027 with Uganda and Tanzania.

While Raila Odinga International Stadium and Moi Sports Centre Kasarani are the main venues for the matches, Eldoret is being positioned as one of the host cities and a key training base for participating teams.
