United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominated Member of Parliament Joseph Wainaina has vowed to table a motion in parliament urging the government to set aside funds for constructing rehabilitation facilities across the country as more youths continue to sink into drug and alcohol abuse.
Speaking at Jireh Faith Based rehabilitation centre in Yamumbi, Kapseret constituency during the graduation of over 50 reformed youths, Wainaina stated that there was the need to rescue the youths from drug and alcohol abuse so that the country can have people who can take up leadership roles in future.
“We have over one million youths who are addicted to alcohol and substance abuse in the country and therefore the private rehabilitation facilities available cannot meet the services of all of them and that’s why we call upon the government to join hands with private sectors in offering best services to the youths,” said the nominated MP from Uasin Gishu County.

On the other hand, the religious leaders led by Bishop Elijah Gatene accused police officers of teaming up with the illicit brewers by taking bribes.
“Our police whom we depend on usually take something small from the brewers then they leave them unquestioned,” said Gatene.
Reverend Maina Njagi, the proprietor of Jireh Faith-Based Rehabilitation centre stated that his main intention is to cleanse the hearts of many youths who have been languishing in drug and alcohol abuse for a long time.
“These people are very sick and if we treat them correctly, many will re-join their family members and also some will go back to their jobs because alcohol makes one lose focus in life,” said Njagi.
The reformed youths expressed their joy stating that they have accepted the change and therefore they will direct their efforts to productive activities.

“I used to drink in excess until one day I woke up in a hospital bed. This completely changed my attitude towards alcohol,” said Peter Mwangi, one of the rehabilitated youth.
