West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin on Monday, September 26, 2022, led the groundbreaking of the 2.7-acre Kapenguria Public Recreational Park in Makutano Town.
Governor Kachapin said the project which is expected to be completed in six months, will improve the public’s much-needed access to outdoor recreational activities and restore green spaces in major towns across the county.

The project will further seek to conserve riparian stretches along the park through tree planting exercises to ensure sustainable use of public spaces and conserve biodiversity.
It will also entail the refurbishment of Jacaranda grounds into a modern mini-park.
According to Hamilton Bett, the County Physical Planner, the park will feature trimmed trees, aesthetic green spaces and well-manicured lawns and walkways.

The World Bank-funded project will be implemented by the Kapenguria Municipality and the Kenya Urban Support Program (KUSP).
It will further see the creation of a botanical space with all species of flowers and plants to capture the county’s floral biodiversity as well as sitting areas for the public.
