The Great Chepsaita Cross Country Race Director Barnaba Korir has lauded the rapid growth and rising international profile of the event, describing this year’s edition as the most successful since its inception.
Speaking during the race on Saturday, December 6, 2025, Korir said the competition—now in its third year—has matured into a major athletics attraction, drawing participants from across the world.
“You have seen it for yourselves because the event has been a success so far. We started this event three years ago, and we can now see the fruits,” he said.
Korir also announced that this year’s race attracted athletes from 22 countries, a significant milestone that signals the event’s increasing influence on the global cross-country calendar.
He noted that although Kenya’s elite athletes were absent as they prepared for the upcoming World Cross Country Championships, the race still recorded an impressive turnout.
“We have registered more than 8,500 athletes, including upcoming runners and veterans. This shows that Athletics Kenya is doing a great job, and the preparations for the youngsters are great,” Korir added.
According to the race director, the event has become an important platform for identifying and nurturing new talent, while also offering competitive opportunities for seasoned runners.
Korir further reiterated Athletics Kenya’s commitment to strengthening grassroots athletics, saying the overwhelming participation proves growing interest and confidence in the sport.
The Chepsaita Cross Country Race continues to position itself as one of Kenya’s most vibrant sporting events, contributing to the development of future champions on the local and international stage.
