Dennis Mutethya, affectionately known as ‘Kababa’ among his peers at KMTC Machakos, is a shining example of passion, dedication, and commitment to sustainable development.
As a second-year student pursuing a certificate course in Orthopaedics and Trauma Medicine, Mutethya has not only excelled in his academics but has also embarked on a remarkable journey to make a positive impact in his community and beyond.
His journey began with a vision to drive meaningful change as well as contribute to the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Fuelled by his passion for sustainable development, he founded the “Africa for SDGs” Club at Machakos Campus. This club since became a platform for students who shared mr. Mutethya’s dedication to achieving the SDGs, with a special focus on Goal 3, which centers on health and well-being.
Healthier and more sustainable world
Under his leadership, the Africa for SDGs club has undertaken various initiatives aimed at creating a healthier and more sustainable world. They started with a community outreach program, where they engaged in tree planting activities, not only to combat climate change but also to improve air quality and overall community well-being.
The club has since visited a children’s home, spreading love and care to those in need, emphasizing that health and well being extend beyond physical health. It is also currently involved in developing an innovative solution that could enhance disease diagnosis.

Mutethya attributes much of the club’s success to the support and encouragement from the Campus Principal Matthew Kipturgo.
“Mr. Kipturgo has been an incredible source of support for our club. His belief in our mission and his willingness to provide resources and guidance have been instrumental in our achievements. We are truly grateful for his leadership,” says the KMTC Student.
Role of students to achieving the SDGs
He encourages other KMTC students to take up similar clubs dedicated to the SDGs.
In addition, he emphasizes how these initiatives align with the core mandate of KMTC, to produce well-rounded, responsible, and socially conscious graduates.
According to the KMTC Machakos Campus Principal, the Africa for SDGs Club demonstrates that students can actively contribute to achieving the SDGs while pursuing their education.

“It’s not just about textbooks and exams, it’s about making a difference. I urge other campuses to embrace such clubs, as they align with the broader mission of the College to nurture individuals who can positively impact society,” he said.
‘Kababa’ is a testament to the power of determination, passion, and the unwavering belief in the possibility of creating a better world.
His journey at KMTC Machakos is not just about personal growth but also about leaving a lasting legacy of sustainable development and improved health and well-being for generations to come.
