Hospitality industry players in Eldoret town have recorded a high occupancy rate just hours before the start of the 2023 Devolution Conference.

The conference that will be hosted in the Uasin Gishu County’s capital is scheduled to officially start on Tuesday, August 15, 2023.

According to the County Executive Committee Member for Public Service Management, Devolution and Administration Elijah Kosgey, all is set for the event.

He noted that a majority of hotels within the town have registered an impressive booking rate.

“Hotels are at about 80 per cent full and everything is set,” Kosgey told Uasin Gishu News on Monday.

He noted that some of the expected visitors have arrived, with more still on the way.

The main conference will be held at the Eldoret Sports Club.

However, there are several other events planned on the sidelines of the Devolution Conference, among them sports that will be staged at the Kipchoge Keino Stadium.

“The day that we have been longing for has come where visitors are meeting at the Eldoret Sports Club. We are welcoming all to the city of champions,” noted the county executive.

At least 10,000 delegates are expected to attend the Devolution Conference – the first one in the new model that will see the event held after every two years.

President William Ruto is scheduled to open the conference on Wednesday with opposition leader Raila Odinga expected to give his keynote address to the delegates on Thursday.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will then close the 2023 Devolution Conference on Friday.
