Police officers in Eldoret town are holding two women who were found in possession of at least 50 rolls of marijuana.

The two were arrested on Friday, April 7, 2023, by Uasin Gishu County enforcement officers.

A source who spoke to Uasin Gishu News says the two middle-aged women were nabbed in Chemororoch area, popularly known as Mangula.

The area has been long been known as a den for criminals involved in the sale of illegal drugs.

However, the county government of Uasin Gishu recently embarked on transforming it through the construction of roads to open up the area that is widely inhabited by street families.

The area was renamed Chemororoch from Mangula.

They were taken in by the county enforcement officers who later booked them at the Central Police Station in Eldoret city centre,” said the source who sought anonymity as he is not authorized to speak to the media.

It is also reported that two men who were in the company of the arrested ladies managed to escape.

Police are expected to interrogate them in the hope they will provide information that will lead to the arrest of their accomplices.

Meanwhile, the two are expected to be arraigned in court on Tuesday to face charging of being in possession of illegal drugs.

The use and trafficking of illegal Class A drugs in Kenya carry heavy fines and jail sentences. The penalty for possession is 10 years in prison.
