The Eliud Kipchoge Sports Complex, nestled in Kapsabet Town, Nandi County, stands as a beacon of athletic excellence, attracting world-class athletes such as marathon sensation Sebastian Sawe who refine their craft on its modern track.

Named in honour of Kenya’s legendary marathoner, Eliud Kipchoge, the facility is fast emerging as a preferred training hub for athletes chasing global success.

Sawe, who etched his name in history with a remarkable 1:59:30 performance in London, becoming the first officially recognized athlete to break the two-hour marathon barrier after a 118-year quest now considers the complex a key part of his preparation journey.

The altitude in Nandi is ideal for building both speed and endurance,” the world marathon record holder noted.

With facilities comparable to Iten and Eldoret, this environment gives us the competitive edge we need on the global stage,” he added.

Is Eliud Kipchoge Sports Complex well equipped?

Eliud Kipchoge Sports Complex is a flagship project of the administration of Governor Stephen Sang, aimed at positioning Nandi as a premier sports destination.

Equipped with a modern track, upgraded changing rooms, and youth training programs, the complex continues to host national trials, school competitions, and elite training camps.

Sports remain central to our development agenda they create opportunities, unite communities, and elevate our county globally,” Governor Sang has emphasized.

The murram track, the only one in the region, is a high-standard 400M track with water jumps that provide a challenging training environment, leading to better performance on tartan tracks.

The murram track has attracted numerous athletes, both amateur and elite, along with their coaches from across the country and abroad.

Approximately 14 athlete camps utilize the facility, with around 1,200 athletes training daily on various schedules.

Beyond elite performance, the facility is also nurturing grassroots talent through training clinics and youth empowerment programs, while stimulating local economic activity in surrounding businesses.

According to Nandi County Executive for Sports Rose Angira, “This facility is more than a track it is a platform for dreams and future champions.”

As Kenya eyes the 2028 Olympics, the Eliud Kipchoge Sports Complex continues to reinforce Nandi’s growing reputation as a powerhouse of athletic excellence.
