Father Allois Bett’s Burial Date Set

The Eldoret Catholic Diocese has announced the burial date of Rev. Fr. Allois Cheruiyot Bett.

Fr Bett was shot dead by unknown individuals on Friday, May 23, 2025, in Tot, Elgeyo Marakwet county.

His death has attracted widespread condemnation from religious and political leaders.

As the Catholic faithful continue to mourn the priest, funeral preparations are also ongoing.

A statement from the Auxiliary Bishop Eldoret Diocese Rt. Rev. John K. Arap Lelei indicate that the late priest will be buried on June 2, 2025.

The priest, according to the statement seen by Uasin Gishu News, will be laid to rest at Holy Family Parish Ol’lessos, Nandi County.

Members of the public will be allowed to view the body in Eldoret a day before his burial.

This is to inform you that the body of Rev. Fr. Allois Cheruiyot Bett, will be leaving MTRH Mortuary on Monday, 2nd June 2025 for viewing at 2pm and requiem Mass at 3:00pm at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral,” read part of a statement from the Auxiliary Bishop Eldoret Diocese.

The funeral Mass and burial will be held on Tuesday, 3rd June 2025 at Holy Family Parish Ol’lessos, Nandi Pastoral Region,” it added.

Until his death, Rev. Fr. Allois Cheruiyot Bett was serving at Tot Catholic Parish.

Police have already arrested six suspects linked to the incident as investigations continue.

Last week, the National Police Service dismissed reports that the clergy had been killed in a bandit attack.

The late father Allois Bett played a key role in peace building within the volatile Kerio Valley.
