The Kimumu AMS Affordable Housing Project in Eldoret City has reached the superstructure stage, marking a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to bridge the housing deficit and support the city’s expanding population.

The 226-unit development forms part of a wider Affordable Housing Programme rollout in Uasin Gishu County, where four other projects are at different stages of implementation. These include the Pioneer Affordable Housing Project in Kapseret Sub-County, the Kidiwa Affordable Housing Project in Soy Sub-County, the Eldoret Railway City development, and the Saroiyot Affordable Housing Project in Kesses Sub-County, whose construction contract was recently advertised.

With the main structural works at Kimumu substantially complete, contractors have now shifted focus to external works as the project steadily takes shape.

Once complete, the development will offer a mix of social, affordable and market-rate housing units, catering to residents across different income levels. The project is also designed as an integrated neighbourhood featuring commercial spaces, parking areas, pedestrian walkways and recreational facilities.

In addition, residents will benefit from improved internal road networks, reliable utility services and modern waste management systems aimed at creating a sustainable and well-planned urban community.

The project comes at a time when Eldoret City’s rapid growth, fuelled by increased economic activity and population expansion, continues to drive demand for quality and affordable housing.

Interior Principal Secretary Dr Raymond Omollo said the government was also working to ensure adequate security measures are incorporated as new residential developments emerge across the region.

“Security planning is being strengthened through coordinated inter-agency efforts, with the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration supporting measures to safeguard the growing residential and public infrastructure,” said Dr Raymond Omollo.

The Kimumu project is expected to play a key role in not only expanding access to affordable housing but also supporting Eldoret’s transformation into a modern, well-planned city.
