Football is more than a game. It is a shared experience that brings together players, officials, clubs, supporters and communities — and it can only thrive on a strong, coordinated safety and security framework.
It is against this background that Football Kenya Federation (FKF) convenes an engagement forum bringing together club administrators, Club Safety and Security Officers and other key stakeholders.
Club Safety and Security Officers play a critical role on match day, but safety cannot be delivered by the security function alone. It requires club leadership, administrators, match officials, supporters, security agencies, stadium management, stewards and medical teams working as one.
No football event can be staged without an established safety and security regime. Every match must be played in an environment where everyone can enjoy the game without fear or unnecessary interruption — including women, children, persons living with disabilities and elderly supporters, who must be able to attend with confidence and dignity.
Supporters remain integral to the game, and their passion drives its growth. FKF urges all fans to support their clubs responsibly and observe the rules and safety guidelines at match venues. Every supporter has rights, but those rights must be exercised without prejudicing the safety or enjoyment of others.
At the heart of these efforts is one fundamental responsibility: the protection of life. Our stadiums must remain places of celebration, unity and sporting excellence an ambition that demands proper planning, adherence to protocols, effective communication and responsible fan behaviour.
This engagement is not about a single match or season. It is an opportunity to strengthen systems, identify gaps and develop practical solutions for the long-term growth of Kenyan football. As the country prepares for AFCON 2027, the lessons and partnerships built today will be critical to hosting major international events safely.
