The Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) has received a DJI T50 drone and a modified generator from China’s Blue Sky Rescue (BSR), a donation expected to strengthen the organization’s emergency response and search-and-rescue operations.
In a statement issued on November 2, Kenya Red Cross thanked the Chinese humanitarian organisation for the equipment, describing it as a valuable addition to its drone department.
“The drone will support search and rescue, giving us a faster and safer way to locate people and deliver life-saving supplies during floods, landslides, bush fires and other emergencies, especially in areas that are cut off or hard to reach by road,” the organisation said.

The new drone is expected to improve the speed and efficiency of emergency response efforts, particularly during disasters where access to affected communities is limited.
Founded in 1965, the Kenya Red Cross Society is the country’s sole National Red Cross Society and works alongside government agencies and partners to provide humanitarian assistance, disaster response and community resilience programmes across Kenya, while Blue Sky Rescue is a volunteer-based humanitarian rescue organisation established in China in 2007.
The organisation conducts emergency rescue missions and disaster response operations both within China and internationally, and has participated in major earthquake, flood and storm relief efforts.

The donation highlights growing collaboration between humanitarian organisations and the increasing role of technology in strengthening disaster preparedness and response.
