Former Uasin Gishu County Secretary Peter Lelei Lands Plum State Job

Peter Lelei, the pioneer Uasin Gishu County Secretary, has landed a new job at the National Police Service Commission (NPSC).

Lelei who served as the County Secretary under former Governor Jackson Mandago has been appointed NPSC Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

He will also double up as the Commision Secretary.

A press release signed by National Police Service Commission chairperson Eliud Kinuthia indicates that Lelei will serve in the new position for five years.

The National Police Service Commission has on this 12th day of April 2023, appointed Mr Peter Kiptanui Lelei as the Chief Executive Officer /Commission Secretary (CEO/CS) of the National Police Service Commission for a period of five years effective immediately,” read part of the press release.

Peter Lelei is a career civil servant. He served as the Uasin Gishu County Secretary from 2013 to 2018.

The law provides that a County Secretary serves for a term of five years and he/she is eligible for reappointment for another term.

Joined politics

He left the position to take up the role of Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee (IGTRC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO), a position he served until his resignation in February 2022 to join politics.

Previously, the new NPSC Chief Executive served as a senior District Officer (DO).

Lelei hails from Kaplamoiywo village in Tinderet, Nandi county.

He unsuccessfully vied for the Tinderet parliamentary seat in the 2022 general election but lost during the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominations.

Initially, he had opted to vie for the seat as an independent candidate before he was convinced to shelve his ambitions in favour of incumbent MP Julius Meli who had won the UDA ticket.

Meli went on to win the seat in the general election.
