Senator Samson Cherarkey Demands Statement on Shadrack Maritim’s Disappearence

Nandi County Senator Samson Cherarkey has submitted three urgent statements to Parliament’s Standing Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations, addressing pressing matters affecting Kenyans both at home and abroad.

Senator Cherarkey on Thursday, November 13, 2025, raised alarm over the disappearance of political aspirant Shadrack Maritim in Tinderet Sub-County.

Maritim was last seen on October 27, 2025, during a morning run in Cheplaskei, Uasin Gishu County,” Cherarkey stated.

His disappearance has sparked widespread public concern and prompted several protests in Maraba Trading Centre, where residents have demanded transparency and urgency in the investigation,” he added.

The Senator expressed concern that demonstrations have been met with police intervention, including the use of teargas, further heightening tensions in the area.

He is seeking updates on the investigation’s status and measures to rebuild community trust in law enforcement.

Are Kenyans in Tanzania safe?

Senator Cherarkey also requested a statement regarding the safety of Kenyan citizens in Tanzania following post-election unrest.

Following Tanzania’s October 2025 general elections, the country has experienced widespread unrest marked by civilian clashes with security forces,” he said.

This poses a significant safety risk to Kenyan citizens residing in or travelling to Tanzania.

The Senator is pushing for details on emergency assistance protocols, evacuation measures, and coordination efforts between the Kenyan and Tanzanian governments to de-escalate tensions along the border.

In addition, Cherarkey sought assurances on the country’s preparedness for ongoing heavy rains, citing flooding and landslides affecting the Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, and Highlands regions.

These conditions pose serious risks to lives, property and infrastructure, especially in vulnerable and densely populated areas,” he emphasized.
