From Brewing to Building Futures: 10 Nandi Beneficiaries Graduate From Rehabilitation

County Government of Nandi, through the Department of Trade, Tourism, Industrialization and Enterprise Development, under the Directorate of Alcoholic Drinks Control, is intensifying efforts to rehabilitate brewers and individuals dependent on alcoholic drinks.

In collaboration with Empowering Lives International Centre, the Directorate has continued to witness encouraging transformation among brewers and individuals struggling with alcohol dependency who have undergone rehabilitation at the facility.

On Thursday, April 16, 2026, the facility graduated a total of 74 individuals who have reformed from brewing and alcohol dependency.

This group includes 10 beneficiaries admitted through the Nandi County Directorate of Alcoholic Drinks Control.

The graduates underwent comprehensive training in business skills, positive values, and personal development, equipping them to positively impact their communities.

Speaking during the event, the Director in charge of the Directorate, William Melly, appreciated the individuals who took the bold step to seek rehabilitation support.

He urged them to become ambassadors of change within their communities.

He further reaffirmed the Directorate’s commitment to supporting individuals struggling with alcoholism who are willing to reform.

Sharing her testimony, one of the beneficiaries recounted her long struggle to quit brewing, noting that repeated arrests and fines had drained her financially.

She expressed gratitude for the rehabilitation program supported by the County Government and Empowering Lives International Centre, stating that it has transformed her life.

She affirmed her commitment to abandoning alcohol brewing and embracing a fresh start, sentiments echoed by many of the graduates.

The Centre’s Chief Executive Officer, John Busienei, called upon county governments and the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) to strengthen collaboration with the Centre.

He emphasized the importance of supporting more beneficiaries to undergo life-changing training programs that not only transform individuals but also empower them to become advocates against alcohol abuse within their communities.

County Government of Nandi remains committed to strengthening partnerships, expanding rehabilitation programmes, and supporting sustainable livelihood initiatives aimed at transforming lives and building healthier, more productive communities.
